Have you tried pinning a recycle bin to the taskbar?
In Vista (and XP) I wound up using a convoluted method of creating a special toolbar just for the recycle bin. But you can only do functions like emptying the bin by right clicking, and you have to take care to not accidentally select "delete" instead of "Empty Recycle Bin" because that deletes the icon altogether.
