These questions keep coming up so it's great to have a handy guide to point people at.

That last question about whether upgrade media will be able to do an install on an empty HDD is the big unknown. I wish MS would clarify that. The worst case (having to reinstall XP before being allowed to be able to (re)install Win7) is pretty bad but hopefully that won't be forced upon people.
