...for the advice on what and how much I should write.
For the record, I believe that anyone who has even the slightest intention of installing a beta release of a crucial piece of system software such as a browser should absolutely read the documentation first. Every word of it. Failing to do so is reckless and just a terrible practice. By definition, beta software has bugs, and known bugs or incompatibilities or installation issues are disclosed in the release notes and accompanying blog posts. They should be read.
Just to be clear, however, I did not say in the original post that you should read every piece of documentation. Instead, I pointed to the installation instructions, which are actually fairly short and include everything an XP SP3 user needs to know. Here's what I wrote: "The official caveats and install/uninstall instructions are on this fact sheet. I strongly recommend you read them before blithely beginning the installation." The link I included goes directly to a set of instructions that clearly explain what XP SP3 users need to do before beginning installation.
Maybe I should have said something other than "I strongly recommend you read them..."? - Posted by: Ed Bott Posted on: 09/01/08 (Edited: 09/02/2008 @ 06:56) You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
