RE: Windows Update setup (Apple Software Update versus Microsoft Update)
Hi there. I appreciate your article, but unfortunately; you
are not experienced enough to give the correct
information. In the overall scheme of things (which in your
case means Apple vs. WIndows), it is Microsoft Windows
that has the worst procedures for updating your system
OS. I have at least 100+ customers in the last 2.5 years
that attest to that (I had to go fix those systems). As an IT
pro for the last 30 years, I can categorically state that
Windows XP will download and update an OS automatically
without asking, by default (unless the user changes the
parameters, which most casual users don't understand or
know how to change). The Mac OSX will produce a dialog
box informing you of updates and then hang there until
the user clicks "OK" or "cancel". That applies to any Apple
application. Or a user can pick or choose which updates
they want in these dialog boxes. In the XP environment,
you can turn off the auto updates, but then the user is
bombarded with the never ending balloons popping up
from the task bar. In the "Vista" environment, Microsoft
solves their security problems by shifting responsibility to
the end user. That is the reason for all these "are you sure
you want to do this..." dialog boxes that appear in Vista
every time you need to do something in VIsta. As far as
Safari is concerned, I have used it for the past 5 years or
so on a Mac and it is really good. I also like Firefox.
But Internet Explorer? The most unsecure browser you can
put on your desktop.....
