I use both OSes, but what people seem to be missing is the point of the article - It's not a "this OS is better than that". The article states that the *current* software update for iTunes could learn a lesson from the Windows updater.

Using both current interfaces, Windows Vista, and iTunes (8.1.0.52), iTunes is seriously lacking something: An in-your-face, easy way to turn off installing "updates" to applications you have not yet installed. Yes, you can clear the check boxes, but the next run, it's automatically selected again. In Windows, when you opt to turn off an optional update, the check box doesn't automatically check itself again.

The "my OS is better than your OS" argument has gone on for way too long, really. By now, most people should realize (and a few have pointed it out) there are pros and cons to both. Read the article for what it says, not the "between the lines" bits. Ed Bott wasn't comparing systems, he was comparing something very specific: Software updates.
