3 bad vista machines
The first 2 machines were HP's. They both had a serious video problem. I couldnt chat on yahoo and watch a dvd at the same time.I kept getting warnings that there was a problem with the graphics card and my videos wouldnt play. I spent 9 hours online with Hp trying to find and fix the problem. When I took the second one back I told the associate at Circut City that i needed one that had good video and graphics. she suggested this one. So I bought a Gateway (Digital media manager) PC. 1 gig/ram 320 gig/hard drive and a geforce 6150E graphics card. Right away I started having media and graphic problems. My dvd player kept freezing and shutting down, even without chatting . So I got fed up and took it to a shop. And the owner showed me some things. On Vista there is a "windos experience index". It rates the components on your PC. This one wasnt rated to bad, except for the geforce card they put in. It was a 3. The lowest you can use for Vista. So He replaced it with a $200 card and had to put in a new power supply because the one that was in it barely had enough to power the PC (I watched him do all the work and he showed me the power needs so I wouldnt think he was scamming me). I also had an extra gig put in and added a new dvd player. Now my lowest score is a 5.2. The graphics card works great, the dvd player works great. But I had to purchase a dvd player(software) because the media center kept shutting down. I tried several different dvd players that said they were vista compatible. (Im so glad they have free trials). I only found one that worked properly. So I ended up spending another $70 on PowerDVD. And it works great with Vista. As far as all the glitches and errors, and slow start up, the shop owner said they were internal problems with Vista, and Vista has to fix them. But for now, Im just dealing with them. Right now I just have an $1800 computer that works. If they ever do come out with fixes for these problems, I'll have an $1800 computer that works great.
