Home Server
I'm very interested in a home server I posted a few months ago
about a possible home server in a compact form factor with power
saving cpu. To me the ideal set up would have an embedded core os which could not get infected with malaware and have stack on modules for hard drives, optic drives etc. One use for me it would work out great for would be browsing the web without fear of getting attacked and using to store web pages. It would also be great as a first line defense for main computers and guaranteed way to boot and get on line quickly. To save work space real estate it could use a small 7-10 inch monitor or kvm perhaps built in. It would be great as low power remote or local file server.I would like to build one now perhaps with PIII or Pentium M and don't want to monkey with Linux.

I'm using a Pentium M for that purpose and my main 939 and dual core machines for video editing, cd/dvd burning, playing movies etc. I would really prefer dedicated home server software with wake on lan and like I said an embedded core os.

Perhaps we could buy a non-programable chip or co-processor with the server os embeded so it was impossible to get malaware. Perhaps it could interface with X-box and media and would speed up interactive games and other interactive functions because the server cpu would process internet/ethernet functions or assist with other procesing tasks.

I think its a great idea.
