Faulty memory modules caused a similar problem
Hi

I recently added another 1Gb memory to my machine checked it out and everything seemed fine used the machine for some 12 to 14 hours during which time I rebooted the machine a number of times. the next day swithed on and windows put me in the final activate windows or be locked out scenario despite having been an actived version the day before. It would not let me activate over the net and I ended up swithing off. When I next rebooted I had an activated version of windows again till I got a BSOD stating some problem due to memory.

Took the 1Gb out I had installed and everything seemed fine for a while but the system had become flaky so I did a clean install (A newish machine so no real aggro) but I am concerned about vista and installing any software that is not vista specific (I think flakiness was due to some drivers for a usb TV tuner that works fine on XP) but also worried about any hardware faults scrambling microsofts activation routines.

These activation routines only seem to affect genuine owners of there software as there are always cracked copies floating around the internet anyway. Piracy has obviously brought microsoft to the edge off bankruptcy (not) and just caused aggro for all legitimate users.

Still got it off my chest!!!
