One thing you did not point out ...
... was that all this enhanced security was probably brought about by Firefox.

Microsoft seemed to think that the browser was dead, Vista's new systems would do it differently and "reprioritised" (=disbanded) the IE team.

Then Firefox appeared and started eating market share and the IE team was reformed!

So the end result is that no matter which broswer you use they are more secure than they were 2 years ago.

Now, this thread will probably devolve into the usual evangelical scrap between Firefox and IE supporters, but the simple truth of the matter is that Microsoft needs competition to keep it moving along. I suspect that without Firefox IE would be in a dreadful state and users would pay for it in the usual fashion - malware, spyware, etc. etc.

So from a user's point of view the competition is improving the quality of both products and that has to be good.

Now - if only they will sort out IE's CSS box model.....
