You're missing the point of the iPhone app
The point of the iPhone iKindle app is not to replace the Kindle or any
other reader - the point it is to generate more interest in digital book.
Amazon has released this software to create customer association
between their company and eBooks the same way that Apple has with
digital music and its iPod. And hopefully to get their hands a little more
into the Apple/iTunes cookie jar and pick up a bit of market-share with
digital music sales along the way.

The software is a marketing tool for a fledgling product (eBooks) without
much customer awareness or interest - yet.
