Phone order people are 3rd Party and not part of Dell
The people you spoke to via the phone do not understand that legally you can have a company and use your personal social security number for an EIN (its the same). While this has other implications as far as responsibility in the eys of the law, it is perfectly legal. They will not talk to you unless you provide a company name you are purchasing on behalf of. You CAN however purchase business systems thru the web site withOUT supplying a social security number (EIN), or company name without the hassel. I too ordered a Vostro this year for my nephews for Christmas and got the 3rd degree from 3 different people on the phone ordering line. I ended up ordering via the web site. From previous experience purchasing a Dell Laptop, I found out that the people you call to place an order are 3rd party and NOT Dell. If you place the order thru the web you skip these people. I would think Michael Dell would be more concerned that the 3rd party people are turning away orders but apparently not. I have ordered systems in the past form the Business section for personal use because I am an extreme power user in what I want to run and have been repeatedly asked if I'm with a business, government, etc. From what I can gather from the companies I've purchased from, individuals that need that kind of processing power for personal computing must be rare - they all seem shocked. It's either that or the other individuals ordering these machines are giving out fake companies or they find time to build their own computers.
