RE: Cloud computing and open source face-off
Let's not lose sight of the rationale for Cloud in the first place; An applications utilization program that costs less and/or delivers more than resident-housed software applications of business systems. Very Large Enterprises (VLEs) already have "cloud" through their networking systems, many using hybrid Networked systems combined with some -cloud-served applcations suitable for say, Cloud Commuting. Much more is coming, particularly when Security considerations have been satisfied, or marginalized.
For SOHO and SMB, Cloud may be the way to multiply productivity, add services at minimal cost, and most importantly have confidence in the most up-to-date software and security applications.
