API Aggregation
This is a terrific summary of a landscape-altering trend on the web. At Gigya, we also see these APIs as an enormous opportunity for businesses. By aggregating a large number of these APIs in order to simplify the connection process, we are playing a critical infrastructure role for web publishers. For example, we aggregate the embed APIs for web widgets for more than 50 different destination platforms, handling any backend changes, so thousands of publishers don't have to. Similarly, as Facebook and MySpace have opened up their platforms to third parties, Gigya is aggregating those APIs, enabling websites to integrate with the social graph and powerful communication tools those platforms offer and make their own websites social. If there are now 1,000 open APIs and more coming every day, I see this aggregation role becoming increasingly important and am interested to hear more about what other companies are offering services in other areas and how businesses are thinking about managing these new opportunities.
