I've been using Vista Ultimate on a Toshiba R25-S3503 that I upgraded to 2GB of RAM, and I'll be interested in hearing what you think of Vista on the X60. I thought about the X60, I like the battery life, but I really like the 14'1" wide screen on the R25, though a little bulky for carrying around as a tablet, its great as a standard laptop as well.
You made mention of the M200 not getting Vista support. Seems like Toshiba at least on their web site hasn't officially supported even R20/R25 which is only about 8 months old. However, since pretty much all these units are based on the Intel 945 chip set, the drivers are there, but you have to get them from Toshiba, Intel, and Microsoft.
However, once the right drivers were in place I must say that Vista on a laptop is FAR better than XP. Hibernation and sleep work reliably now. Since putting the latest Intel 945 graphics driver on this machine, I've been able to go in and out of hibernation, sleep, and connect to my external monitor and keyboard without a system crash. This laptop has been on 8 days going through that routine. I never had an XP laptop do that without crashing after a couple of days.
Sometimes I cannot get my external monitor to connect after coming out of hibernation, but going into and coming out of hibernation again gets it to connect properly, so hopefully this a minor video driver issue.
I've got a couple of Toshiba accessory apps that crash now and then, and I installed the DreamScene preview that has crashed once and has a few issues.
One last thing that's caused a problem is the TIP. It will stop working in float mode after the tablet is to converted to slate mode now and then and not bring up a matching list in the Internet Explorer 7 address bar without being restarted and killing the active TIP processes, but then starts working properly again after this restart process.
Again, I can't wait to see what you think and I hope that my experiences give you some guidance! - Posted by: Heatlesssun1 Posted on: 02/28/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
