Doesn't fly...
Whilst I can see the arguement that "Joe User" may not need Outlook as an email tool because it is too complex there are a those who use it more as an information gathering tool, especially when you consider things like RSS. The inclusion of RSS directly in Outlook 2007 is an admission that Outlook can be used for so much more.

Yes, other tools exist which can do the same things but Outlook gathers all of this together in one place.

The one thing which doesn't fly with me, however, is the discrepancy between Microsoft Office Basic 2007 and Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.

The Basic edition is described thus: "Office Basic 2007 will provide office software essentials to homes and small businesses so people can quickly and easily create great-looking documents and worksheets, as well as manage e-mail" so by implication Home users are going to be using Outlook. So, why is Outlook not included in a SKU with "Home" in the title?
