The author suffers from windolerium in this comparison. Windolerium is a state of
confusion brought on when something you've been conditioned to think is hard
turns out to be easy.

You see, the Networking preference in OS X is technical, because on technical
types ever need to go there. For 99% of the home using population, they'll never
NEED to visit it.

Contrast that with Vista, where 99% of people are EXPECTED to have to visit the
advanced networking configuration control panels.

So, Vista gets points for making a tool that the typical user should NEVER have to
visit easier because the initial design is so crappy everyone winds up having to
visit there. Meanwhile, Apple gets dinged because its preference panel, which will
only be accessed by 1% of the typical user who wants advanced configuration, and
will know why he wants it, speaks the clear, technical language that someone
going there will expect to see.

Classic Windolerium.
