If I'm the Arnold (or the Donald) then my name etc. have value and I work hard to maintain control of that value. The courts go along with this and I can sue if someone uses my data without a contract with me deliniating terms and conditions.

Seems to me that this is all the precedent necessary to say we all have rights to our personal data (although they aren't worth as much as the Arnold's) and can protect the usage of that data in the same manner.

I've often thought that the way to eliminate the sale of mailing lists was exactly this. To demand royalties to be paid to the owner from the sale of each and every name on the list.
