Great post/podcast - there is a definite trend in applying MapReduce to handle the data loads of today. One of the biggest challenges is elegant integration of SQL so that traditional industries outside of Internet can take advantage, as well. This enables business analysts to take advantage without needing to understand how parallel programming works. Aster Data Systems is focusing on this with it's SQL/MR functions:
