- services forecast: cloudy with a chance of rain
-
((( "The next war is the cloud war, and the
battles will be fought around software as
a service, desktop as a service, integration
as a service, infrastructure as a service,
platform as a service, development as a
service, content management as a service,
and so on." )))
Does anybody really want all of that stuff
forced on them as "services?" I don't think
so. Steve Ballmer does, obviously, and so
do other marketing droids like this author,
but the average person just isn't
interested. Microsoft has been shooting
billions of dollars into the "cloud" for
years now, and they haven't seen much in
the way of return on their investments.
Apple makes the largest chunk of its
money from hardware sales, and likely
always will. If Microsoft wants to spend all
of its time and money pursuing that whole
"software as a service" hooey, then by all
means, they should. Apple, though,
doesn't need to hamstring or eliminate its
biggest profit center in a misguided chase
for theoretical service-in-the-cloud
dollars. That's a rube's game. - Posted by: buddhistMonkey Posted on: 04/01/08 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
