As I wrote in May, there are dozens of reasons for IBM and Novell to merge, or IBM to acquire Novell.

For starters, most of the top Novell management are Ex-IBM. Novell controls UNIX, which IBM must have. And, Novell is a cash-rich company, with their cash reserves some 70% of their market cap.
