"Finding a new business model for news and other media is the most important question about the future of the Internet."
The fact of it being media is not so important, quintessential is that the Internet is a (the 5th) technological revolution which COULD lead to major advances in CIVILISATION, PROVIDING WE DON'T REPEAT THE MISTAKES OF THE PREVIOUS FOUR.

The more I think about the current business models the more I see the massive inefficiencies built in by global corporations to protect their revenue streams: your ticketing example illustrates it nicely. The time has come to alter the balance of power between the media, technology and financial giants and the consumer; for corporations have become too powerful and too greedy.

I consider it extremely unlikely that the incumbents will relinquish their power. The UK Government, in preparing its Digital Britain report, invited the protagonists to consider new models with no feedback other than each protecting its own interests.

We need Government intervention. Your Alexander is called Barack and mine Gordon [ the latter should be pretty close to untying the knot wink ]. Time for a G20 summit because the global trading architecture must be ... rearchitected.
