I find my self agreeing with the logic of your argument ... but disagreeing about the essence.

Some of your lamentation appears to be about journalism in a traditional newspaper. A dying medium - so move on. There is still room for journalism in other forms e.g. blogs and collectives like ZDNET.

There it is possible to entertain, to tell a story.

It is possible to inform: lots of helpful articles and tips all over ZDNET.

The feedback feature keeps the dialogue going.

There have been many cases where respected bloggers brought telling pressure on global corporates, forcing a change of direction for the better. More of that please.

Perhaps the main problem for journalism in its new form is one of accuracy and objectivity: too many amateur, un-researched, biased opinions (no doubt I've contributed a few!). The increasingly tight deadline puts greater pressure to come up with ... something.

"It?s a messed up relationship, full of passion and no future. But isn?t that always the best kind?"
No, Sounds like an affair. I believe one may still fall in love and be happily married.
