Withering at the roots
Blogs, twitter, facebook, and the like gained popularity because people felt they could get the real scoop, not the media generated hyp. If the advertising machine goes after bloggers and tweeters like they have facebook, and if the bloggers and tweeters feel they will get monetary benefit from hawking products & services, then it will be nothing more than adversiting as usual. Way to dry up a grassroots movement for sure. We are overmarketed as it is, why not let "word of mouth" advertising grow at it's own pace and in it's own refreshing way; it will die a much slower death than if everyone jumps on the bandwagon and drives it over the edge. Think "DO NOT CALL" list.
