Both SugarCRM and Saleforce are excellent products. The real benefit of SugarCRM however, is the open nature of the software. All companies are different and being able to easily bend your CRM solution to suit your business is a key factor in success.
Whilst both systems can be customised, Salesforce relies on a proprietary language which few people have experience of. Sugar on the other hand is written in PHP and hence has a wider pool of available and affordable expertise.
