- It's going to be a while...

I don't think Apple is ever going to approve
Google Voice, unless pressured to. They know
that when users install Google Voice, they are
going to want to replace the phone icon with
Google Voice. They will want to replace the
Messages Icon with something which also
utilized Google Voice for SMS go-between. They
will also want to replace the Contacts icon
with a Google Contacts equivalent.
Eventually, people will want to replace the
calendar icon with something which utilized
Google Calendar. People will want to replace
the mail icon with Gmail. Combine all of this
activity with the fact that the Maps icon is
already powered by Google, that YouYube is
prominent on the iPhone, and that the Google
app is very popular for searching (not to
mention Google being the default search in
Safari on the iPhone)... Apple is losing the
iPhone more and more to Google-centric apps and
services.
In the meantime, Android is expanding on more
and more phones and is finally getting access
via Verizon this year. All of this activity
just forces Apple to practice more of their
"walled garden" mentality, to make sure to lock
people into their phones... and their apps...
and their way of thinking... for as long as
possible until it's too late.
