I really like your blog, and have been following it for a long time, but i have to correct you on that:

Google did not OpenSourced Jaiku to fight Twitter.
They bought it for it Know How and killed the project...
Jaiku was maintained as a 20% time project of old devs and a few more Googlers.

Now that google pulled the trigger on it, I guess someone in there though of making it FOSS before it got closed, and Google Chiefs accepted.

That way, the code, features and community around it can prevail.
