RE: Microsoft still fighting a losing battle against Google
The fact Microsoft doesn't give up easily on some
projects despites the fact that they are losing
significant amount of money with them, is one of the
thing i really appreciate about them.
This said, i have always been surprised by the obvious
lack of efficiency of a significant number of their
teams or the fact that they have hard time to spend
more money where it matters.
It is for example very true for both the Xbox team and
the Zune team which have been doing serious errors
since the beginning which have prevented those
products to be more(much more in case of zune)
successful. For example it seems obvious that the zune
should have been available and heavily in markets
where the iPod has little success. Moreover the high
end Zune models should have inovative features over
the iPod, like high resolution touchscreen before the
iPod touch was even anounced.
It would also have been interesting that M.S take its
time to correctly design the Xbox 360 in order for it
to have a very high reliability and some features such
as HD DVD and at least one unique feature, easily
acknowledgeable by costumers, over its competitors.
In the context,it is a waste of time and of money to
fight this way agaisnt Google.
If they really want to gain some market share agaisnt
Google than they should manage to design a search
solution with at least one significant ,and
acknowledged by anyone, advantage over Google.
Then they should find the right ways to market it.
Now,if what interests them ,like i think,is to make
money from advertising, then they should find new and
innovative ways to do so.
They could for example use some of the Live services
as medium to do that.
