Adding Tasks

I'm venting on a subject only tangentially related to the article. It is this: when are users going to have the same kind of functionality for creating tasks that we have for creating email? I can right-click on any file on my Windows system and send it as an email attachment. Why can't I right-click and add it to a task on my calendar? What is so hard about calendaring that there are still no widely adopted standards that would make calendaring files interoperable? I use Thunderbird with a Google Calendar plug-in for my home desktop; love it. It allows me to convert an email to a task. Why, for the love of all that is rational, can't I do the same in Outlook? (Admittedly my Outlook is 2003). Instead I have to cut-and-paste from my email into a new task. Sure, Outlook allows you to send tasks, but what's the use if other people don't send them to you? Other people send me emails with requests for me to do something. It would be very convenient to be able to convert them to tasks. Why do I need special synchronization tools to sync my Salesforce Calendar to my Outlook Calendar to my Google Calendar? What the heck is so hard about getting industry standards in calendaring?
