Its not about who collects the information
People are dumb, you can trust Google all you want. But
they still have the information on a server somewhere. The
more information you have on servers the more chance
someone else will get it. I personally have stopped doing
things like storing credit card numbers on places like
Amazon and even stopped allowing web browsers to save
passwords. The only way I know to be as safe as possible is
to keep information as close to me as possible. People
should not be so careless with any personal information no
matter how safe they may be told it is.
