Well, i don't know if that works in technology
Windows and Office will be outdated someday. It's on the fringes of happening now, so the writing is on the wall. There is simply too much promise for web apps to step all over MS's conventional software.

Google basically is using Microsoft now as a launching pad for it's apps. With the browser, desktop and rails etc....eventually the underlying OS will be moot and Google will be laughing at the irony of how they took advantage of Microsoft's own technology, to beat them.

If there had been no anti trust issues and Microsoft had played things differently, they could have owned the web and their core technologies in the 90s when they came out with the exchange web client and AJAX technology. If they had made the move then and invested more heavily in the web, thinking toward the future, Google would have no leverage. But as it stands, they can walk all over Microsoft's OS with their code that is essentially slowly creating a web "OS" at Microsoft's expense and MS can do nothing about it. Any complaint is going to fall on deaf ears. Only when Google reaches the point, and by then it's too late, that MS can contend they don't ahve to support Google's apps since it's become it's own OS in a sense....maybe they'd have a case.
