Android Developer Angst Will Blow Over
Google is sure to release the new SDK soon and provide a clear communication once their ducks are in a row - since this is all on the fast track of development.

As far as competing with iPhone I see a collaboration of Android w Symbian & LiMo and its the 80s all over again with a broad Anrdoid (~PC) market to the niche and closed iPhone (~Mac) one.
