Change it - not kill it
I'm an advocate for replacing Javascript with some other scripting language. My personal favorite would be Ruby - since the Ruby on Rails movement is alive and kicking. Ruby is also object-oriented (class-based), while some of its competitors are not (Perl for example).

AJAX sucks because of the J. ARAX would rock!

BTW, this would eliminate the "coding for" issues since everyone would need to work together to eliminate JavaScript - and in the process a standard will be born.
