More Than Just A Software Company
"Our close partnership with the ad community is extremely important to us as we evolve Microsoft from a software company into the world's largest, most attractive provider of online media through MSN, Windows Live(TM) and adCenter."' (emphasis mine)

I think what the company means is that it will become more than a software company, and will provide tools and services that allow people to access various forms of content. Much of its services will become supported by ads.

What would be neat, is if MS provided a smart client web application for its Windows Live portal, that showcased what that type of application can do ? maybe along with what it is already doing. Maybe it could allow the application, and others like it, to reside in IE and other browsers. Users could then switch among applications of this new type, using say a navigation bar to the left of the browser. It would certainly help to distinguish Windows Live from other similar products out there, and show what client web applications can do.
