Dear Mr. Piquepaille,

Thank you for referencing our work.

The Technology Review story may have left the
impression that I'm not very optimistic about the
adoption of medical device interoperability.
However, the story didn?t have enough room to
convey that a great deal has been accomplished to
leverage the adoption of interoperability to
improve patient safety since 2004 through a
collaboration of healthcare provider institutions,
manufacturers, and governmental and NGOs,
convened by our program. Over 70 institutions
and > 600 experts (clinicians and engineers) have
participated. Many support provider-mandated
conformance to interoperability standards.
