- Value for money.
-
If a product is uniquely good for its purpose and that purpose is essential, then the buyer of the product is getting value for money. If there's only one source for the product, then the company which created that product is entitled to be rewarded.
Your argument treats Microsoft features as if they were only a nefarious scheme to lock in buyers. What would happen if you changed the premise of your discussion to consider Microsoft customers who are getting more from Microsoft products than they could get elsewhere?
Is it more important to have a product available from more than one source or to have a product that works better?
Another significant issue: I expect that one of the Vista versions will be directly competitive with Linux as less expensive software that will do less. There may be a market for such an operating system, and if there is, Microsoft will want to obtain the revenues. Keeping the Linux desktop as moribund as it present isn't a bad goal either.
Have you been considering whether a particular potential Vista version will foreclose Linux on the desktop? - Posted by: Anton Philidor Posted on: 09/27/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
