- Did Microsoft out think Apple?
-
I'm not going to take credit for this thought, I read it on another site,
but apparently 090909 is the same date that the Beatles newly
remastered catalog will come out with all the bells and whistles.
If Microsoft had the foresight to obtain limited exclusive rights to the
Beatles library, that would give the new Zune a huge lift when it
debuts on 9/15. It would show that MS, which has been playing catch
up to Apple in the iPod wars, was doing some creative thinking on its
own.
If, on the other hand, Apple is having their event on the same day as
the Beatles debut because they are going to have an exclusive, then
that's just another nail in the Zune coffin. I read one analyst's take on
Zune's horrible effect on Microsoft's bottom line and at some point MS
has to pull the plug.
In the latest poll of teens, 100% of them stated their next mp3 player
would be an iPod; the zune got 0 votes. Here's what I think is
happening. The Zune appeals to people that hate Apple, and that's a
minority of users, and they've probably already purchased a Zune. You
can't grow a market by appealing to people that hate another
company. You need to appeal to people that want your product
because it's compelling, or cool, or the easiest to use, whatever.
MS doesn't have the cool factor, they don't have 80% of automobile
manufacturers and airplane manufacturers putting proprietary docks
in their products like Apple does, they don't have the thousands of
third part products or the 65000 apps the iPod has.
MS will really have to turn the world on its ear for the new Zune to get
any traction. I've still never seen one in the wild and that's the truth. - Posted by: ShazAmerica Posted on: 08/18/09 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
