Tethering bandwidth on Rogers' network in Canada
Hi,

Thanks for the article. This is something I've been meaning to do
myself but haven't got around to. Your article made me curious what
we're getting here in the Great White North. Note that this is with an
iPhone 3G running the 3.0 OS.

I tried three things:
1. Tethering over Bluetooth
2. Tethering over USB
3. Low-bandwidth cable modem speed

I've put the screen shots up on Flickr so you can see them if you wish

otherwise here are the results.

1. 682 kbps download, 219 kbps upload
2. 2741 kbps download, 304 kbps upload
3. 1425 kbps download, 663 kbps upload

Note that at home I get about 7 Mbps download and 700 kbps upload
over Videotron's high-bandwidth cable service so the low cable
speeds are not 'typical'.

I had no idea Bluetooth would degrade the service so much! It makes
carrying an extra USB cable in my laptop bag worthwhile.

Tethering did not require a hack as Rogers' offers it at no additional
cost until December. After December? We'll see.
