- Light years ahead of what, exactly?

Smoke signals?
The 1st iteration of the iPhone had the same functionality as very basic phones for the time. It didn't have 3G and you couldn't install programs on it.
The 2nd iteration of the iPhone got 3G (everyone else had this years earlier), you could install programs (everyone else had this years earlier), a 2MP pixel camera (ancient at the time), and 480*320 resolution which wasn't ahead of any self respecting smartphone at the time and far, far, far behind the better ones like the HTC Touch Diamond.
So here we have the 3rd iteration and they are calling it light years ahead? It will finally get copy and paste, something my 7 year old iPAQ had. The camera will be bumped up to 3.2MP which is now average and certainly not what anyone could categorize as being "light years ahead". I haven't even heard rumors of the resolution being improved from what was industry trailing last year. To call 480*320 "light years ahead" is laughable indeed! Oh, and the compass. The same compass that the G1 had last year.
It isn't light years ahead in sales, being soundly trounced by Nokia, RIM, and Windows Mobile.
It isn't light years ahead in reliability. Here is one of the millions of complaints about the iPhone on Apple's overloaded support forums:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1926639&tstart=0
I can do EVERYTHING on my phone right now but make an outgoing call. It doesn't matter how I try, I get the message "call failed" and at the bottom of the screen the 2 boxes, call back (left) and cancel (right). When I hit call back the same message comes up at the top, "call failed".
I love how he claims he can do everything on his phone except place calls!!! Reading the replies to his message you will see that this is a very common problem.
Where it is light years ahead in the fact that Apple is leveraging its iTMS monopoly to break into the cell phone market. This is highly illegal. - Posted by: NonZealot Posted on: 06/03/09 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
