What about realities of business
This is a very interesting, and potentially valuable topic.

Please try and keep the facts straight. Apple has provided a tool for 3rd parties to make their offerings available, deliver them.

The business model is nothing new. Think, Ingram Micro, or other distributors for vertical markets. Many companies think that all they have to do is get their widget into the Ingram eco-system and they?ll have it made. First is the pitch from Ingram ?Here at Imgram, we are very selective when it comes to bringing on new companies and products. We reject way more products than we take on?.? Boy it makes you feel important. And they understand the cash flow for small companies, don?t worry, you can use product to pay for those awareness building activities.

The reality is that the distributor is only there to make your product available, NOT to develop demand. In other words, they will not put significant effort into selling or promoting the product. You can try to spiff the telephone reps, but unless they have immediate success or inquires, the new widget, will not get any mind share.

Likewise, the AppStore is a tool to facilitate awareness and the transaction. It seems to do this really well. What are other smart-phone manufactures doing for their 3rd party developers? There will always be winners and whiners. The whiners need to wake up, pay attention and get out there to promote their solutions. The AppStore provides a lot of value in terms of all the ?paper-work? associated with the order and delivery.
