Former BlackBerry user here
I didn't think I could do without a "real" keyboard, but I've reached a point that I prefer the iPhone's soft keyboard, even when not in landscape mode. Granted, I don't have giant hands, but I don't have small, girly hands either. I'm able to type with both thumbs easily enough, and as time goes on, the iPhone just seems to get better correcting my mistakes. In fact, I don't particularly pay close attention to what I'm typing most times, but still don't make a lot of mistakes.

What I've learned to appreciate most about the iPhone's soft keyboard is that it's only there when I need it. When I don't need it, it disappears to give me added screen real estate. When I look at the BlackBerrys now, the screen seems so confining.
