IM as a free substitute to SMS
IM could only be a free substitute if you could receive messages without having to keep the browser/client open all the time on your phone. If I understand the iPhone 3G's push platform properly, they could get it to work with a proper (ie: 3rd party) IM client but not with a browser based client like this. Or am I mistaken in the belief that Safari can't run in the background and therefore has no way of alerting you when a message has arrived?
