The Marketplace
This need not be an argument on behalf of Macs. Apple should be
the foil in this debate. But Apple is the only real competitor to
Windows. Linux is a part of the public domain and does not formally
compete. Nothing against Linux, it's just that we should not compare
libraries with bookstores when speaking of market competition.

What this is, is an argument on behalf of open market dynamics. The
marketplace is the better arbiter of technological merit.

Orphan technology will happen constantly on any platform. The point
is, it should be moving us forward and the transitions should be
managed better. Whoever does this should win our support.

More important however, is the presence of real choice. Not choice
between fan speeds, power supplies, plastic colours or logos, but
real choice between two different technologies from two different
companies with different shareholders, interests and cultures.

Benefits from two competing companies come not from the allegiance to one or the other but the allegiance to the space
between them. It is the catalyst for the creation of the third, fourth,
and fifth valuable competitor. New Apple users are restoring
competition by cycling and rebalancing the market.
