It's widely known that MSFT PR firms try to influence discussion in social media sites, it's one of the services PR and ad agencies routinely offer.

Not just in tech media but social media sites as well. And, no, MS isn't the only company doing it. You'll occasional pushes from other industries. A few weeks ago on Digg there were 4 or 5 global warming denial stories in quick succession. All with the same vitriolic talking points in the comments.

And you can buy that service yourself from any decent size PR firm or advertising agency. Lot of different names for the service. Ask around, it's not even that expensive.

It would be interesting to run the site logs and check the IP's of the MS fanboyz. I'd be willing to bet one or two are way more consistent than simple technology preference would explain. And some of them are parroting talking points from MSFT's influencer email list.

Just like some of the bloggers here. Right, George?
