Not so much anymore...
Like you I used do have I don't know how many drives laying around with different installs on them. Mostly for doing developemtn testing on various platforms and software. But now with VMWare, not so much.

Looking at my main dev machine it has almost a terabyte (two drives) of drive space and a total of 11 virtual machines. Firing off a virtual machine is FAR easier than swapping drives in and out. Toss in Windows Home Server for automactic backups and its a winning solution.
