But an Ivy League student's opinion about what computer is the best won't go very far - considering parents can get a PC notebook or desktop for half of the price of a Mac. Save the TCO arguement, it's all about upfront cost to a parent. Personally I can't see why my child would need all the frills and extras of a Mac for college. It's like buying and Acura instead of a Honda as a vehicle. Maybe that is something you can explain.
