yeah I have to say Apples service is no better or worse
..than most of the other vendors out there.

I once had to get a Compaq laptop screen replaced 3 times. Each time, it was replaced quickly and without fuss. When it failed a third time I asked for my money back. Not only did I get a complete refund on a year-old laptop, but they also let me keep the printer that came with it, and gave me some free consumables and photo paper too. I wasn't happy with the laptop, but their customer support was excellent.
