All old media companies need to die off...
They are too constrained reliving memories of past glory to change in any meaningful way. What we need are modern 21st century media companies who understand the digital world. If Amazon, Google, or Facebook were to start new media companies, you can bet they would operate completely differently than the current crop of last-century has-beens. They would make money and their customers would be INFINITELY happier. The world would be a better place without all of the old media companies.

As it is now, people despise RIAA, MPAA, book publishers, game publishers, and newspapers because they are ripping us all off for downloaded content. They are all trying to charge the same price as expensive physical media for what amounts to a file copy over the Internet. That's just plain wrong.

Even worse, they are treating their paying customers like criminals in the name of stopping piracy. The reality is, NOTHING they have done has even slowed down piracy. In fact, I would argue that they have sped up piracy by pissing customers off so bad that they don't want to buy anything anymore. The ONLY people inconvenienced by DRM are PAYING customers.

As somebody who historically has purchased $20,000+ worth of media, I have to wonder - Why the hell do these idiots treat us that way? I stopped buying music because of this treatment and will soon stop buying movies if things don't change. I just do without and hope they all die off.

It's this "screw the customer" mindset which needs to fade into oblivion. I plan to celebrate every time I hear about an old media company finally dying off. Good riddance to them all.
