I thought we had the technology for a while?

"Thirty years later, we?ve finally reached a point where such systems can be democratized, and instead of that information being expensively collated for the benefit of a privileged handful of top executives"

We reached that point a long time ago. I guess this means the business *you* work for finally decided to change its business structure to be less top-heavy and more employee friendly.

Or maybe some marketing person at "SuccessFactors" decided that "democratization" sounded like a cool way to describe their product, and they convinced you it's somehow unique.

"the genius of what SuccessFactors has done is to link business metrics to performance goals"

Umm - you mean to tell me that existing software is totally incapable of comparing metrics to goals?

You expect me to believe that, in the past 30 years, nobody has written software that will crunch a few numbers, make a few projections, and tell people whether or not the company (or them as individuals) is making progress towards a goal?

Maybe it's because the company I worked for was small enough that they could just print out the results of an excel spreadsheet and show their employees their progress - but I'd be astounded if larger companies didn't have some sort of equivalent.

Are big businesses truly so backwards they don't have this yet?
