Interesting Phil, but..
You dismissed the biggest challenge to your "rBi" proposal without giving a real argument: the prospect of setup and switching costs, which I know OSS people aren't supposed to talk about, because then OSS is all of a sudden not as cheap as it seems at first glance) but here goes:

There is a VERY real cost in implementing even on-demand software, and it is up there with implementing on-site software. Installing a bunch of junk on a server is cheap. Setting up a network is cheap. Changing business processes and configuring software to fit with the business is expensive - OSS and SaaS don't make it any less expensive and in fact, OSS is usually MORE expensive to configure as it often requires code changes along with configuration.

The only way to make any business system cheap to implement is to make it too inflexible to be used by more than the most simple of business models. This works for very narrowly-focused applications like file storage and collaboration, and maybe even Customer Relationship Management (again, for smaller businesses), but not when you start looking at complicated accounting, distribution, or job costing applications.
