Well, search does not have any lock-in, you can switch search providers in
the time it takes you to type a URL. So, Google must compete fiercely and stay ahead of the curve. On the other hand, they guys at MS must be the village idiots. They have NO shortage of money to throw at it and have in fact invested billions, but, the only thing they can do so far is lose share against Google.

All I can say is that it is a good thing (for Microsoft) that the desktop and office suite have a whole lot of lock-in.
